Identifying equipment ownership in a shared building
That affects access and authorization as well as scope. Describe the particular space instead of assuming the nearest panel serves it.
Include any labels that distinguish common equipment from the premises' equipment. Identification should be established before a connection to a nearby panel is assumed appropriate.
Why does equipment identity matter?
Several meters or panels in one building can serve different occupants and common loads. Choosing the nearest enclosure without tracing its relationship to the premises can lead to an incorrectly defined project.
Identification establishes the source for proposed wiring and the parties affected by interruption. From there, the installation can be assessed for the particular space, with any common-equipment alterations kept explicit rather than implied by physical proximity.
