Comparing manual and automatic backup operation
Explain who will operate the system and what interruption is acceptable. Compare complete arrangements, including transfer equipment and the intended loads, rather than only generator labels.
Discuss the expected user actions during an outage. Automatic transfer and a manually operated connection should not be compared as if their operation and equipment scope were identical.
How do the operating expectations differ?
A manual arrangement involves owner actions that differ from automatic standby operation. Both still need a suitable source and transfer configuration for the intended loads.
Compare equipment and everyday outage procedures as well as installation cost. The selected proposal should explain what happens during loss and restoration of utility power, rather than use backup as though all systems operate identically.
