Backup equipment in a shared building
Identify equipment ownership and authorized access before selecting an arrangement. Work for one unit should not be assumed to include the building's common supply or every occupant's loads.
Provide any available building electrical records through the authorized representative. Ask how proposed backup circuits will be identified and documented so occupants can understand the completed system's boundaries.
Which occupants would the backup serve?
A unit's preferred backup plan may depend on distribution controlled by the building. Transfer connections must follow the actual serving arrangement and authorized project boundary.
Identify the circuits and common loads involved before selecting equipment. The proposal should distinguish premises-specific electrical work from any shared-system alteration requiring separate coordination, keeping other occupants' supplies outside an assumed private scope.
